WHOS (We Help Ourselves)

WHOS provides a range of residential programs for drug and alcohol clients. Services are based in Lilyfield, Sydney; western Sydney; the Hunter Valley and Sunshine Coast in Queensland. WHOS offers three to six month residential programs for drug and alcohol clients. WHOS offers group work, counselling, support and education, stress management and skills development. Group work covers topics such as social and communication skills, assertiveness skills and self esteem building, living skills, self and group evaluation awareness, exiting client groups, relapse prevention and ex-residents groups. WHOS also provides HIV and other infectious disease education and adopts a harm minimisation approach, should a drug free outcome not be chosen. Outreach services and transition housing are available. WHOS provide multiple access to outside activities such as self help meetings, general health services, legal and welfare services, TAFE and other educational activities and various exercise programs.

Programs offered include: 

New Beginnings - a three to six month program women’s residential program for drug and alcohol clients. New Beginnings offers group work, supportive counselling, women’s health support and education, stress management skills development and referral.

Gunyah - a three to six month men’s residential program for drug and alcohol clients. Gunyah offers group work, counselling, support and education, stress management and skills development.

MTAR - a program using the Therapeutic Community model of drug treatment to assist clients with reducing off methadone while learning the skills necessary to live drug free.

RTOD - Residential Treatment for Opioid Dependence assists clients on methadone or buprenorphine treatment with stabilisation support. RTOD offers group work, counselling, support and education, stress management and skills development.

WHOS West - providing Residential Supported Care facilities for residents of Western Sydney requiring support with problematic alcohol and other drug use.

WHOS Hunter - a safe and secure environment where men and women who suffer from drug dependence and its related problems can concentrate on their recovery. Groupwork and individual counselling is provided by experienced drug and alcohol workers who deal with the special needs of clients. The program is located in Cessnock.
