NUAA trialing Community Ethics Ratification of Academic Research Projects

Print

NUAA is leading the way in a new project with universities and researchers. The role of people who use and inject drugs in research is a constant topic of debate amongst the drug users movement. Drug users are probably one of the most over researched groups of people yet are significantly excluded from participating in research processes. NUAA in collaboration with AIVL, and UNSW research centers are trialing a process where injecting drug users review proposed research against their own ethical standards and then endorse the proposal. The trial hopes to strengthen relationships between community and academia while promoting ethical conduct in human research in communities of people who use and inject drugs.
