Sydney Sexual Health Clinic opens new outreach service at NUAA
NUAA and Sydney Sexual Health Clinic have joined
together to launch a new service at NUAA for NUAA’s members and NSP users. It is a fast, free, confidential service that
tests for sexually transmitted infections chlamydia and gonorrhoea. To access the service you don’t need to make
an appointment or have a Medicare card, just call in during NUAA’s open hours
Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday 11am-4.30pm.
NUAA was approached by Sydney Sexual Health Service to
open an outreach service because of concern over the increase in new infections
of chlamydia and gonorrhoea. The increasing new infections rates are of concern
as these infections often have no symptoms but are easily treatable only requiring
two pills or one injection. Unfortunately if
these infections are left untreated they can have devastating health
implications. Chlamydia if untreated can lead to infertility in women and gonorrhoea can lead to pelvic inflammatory disease.
If you want more information about STI’s or the new
outreach service you can call in a talk to NUAA staff member or you can call
the Sydney Sexual Health Clinic and speak to a health nurse on 1800 451 624.
