Now's the Time: HIV Scientists Call for Push on Cure

Ahead of next week's International AIDS Conference in Washington, DC, a team of scientists have called for a  revitalisation of the search for a cure for HIV.

The group, calling itself the International AIDS Society, calls for a seven-stage strategy for finding a cure, and states that the vast expenditure required worldwide for anti-retroviral medicine "is overwhelming many organisations and public health systems."

Nobel Prize winner Francoise Barre-Sinoussi, the co-discoverer of HIV, said "the science has been telling us for some time now that achieving a cure of HIV infection could be a realistic possibility. The time is right to take the opportunity to try to develop an HIV cure."
